Bone Density (BDM or DEXA)

A DEXA exam is a safe, non-invasive procedure used to determine bone mass or bone mineral density (BMD). You will be asked to lie perfectly still on a table while a movable X-ray arm passes over the area being tested, usually the lower spine, a hip and possibly the forearm. Determining bone mineral density is useful in evaluating the risk of fracture.

Preparation:

• Please allow 20 minutes for the exam.
• No additional preparation needed.
